Kathyrn Butts
CPDT-KA
With her signature sense of humor and quick-wit, Kathryn is an in demand instructor, coach, and judge for AKC Scent work and UKC Nosework. After failing out of agility class because her dog was more interested in sniffing the ground than running and jumping, Kathryn instead switched her attention to the up and coming sport of nosework. After many trials and more than a few tribulations, she and her Scottish Terrier, Bentley, had the honor of becoming the fifth team in UKC history to earn the Elite Nosework title. Subsequently, they have gone on to achieve advanced titles in many other nosework venues, including most recently the SWM in AKC Scent Work.
After a successful trial career, Kathryn focused her attention on teaching and sharing her passions for the sport with others, and she truly believes that scentwork is a sport for all dogs. Under her watchful eye, dogs develop independence and confidence, while handlers learn to navigate the complex search areas and observe the changes of behavior that set her teams apart in a competition setting. Her classes place a strong emphasis on foundation skills and communication between dog and handler, all while maintaining a positive, creative, and inspiring space for learning.
